Semaglutide is a medication that helps manage blood sugar levels and also aids in weight loss. It works by mimicking a natural hormone in your body called GLP-1. This hormone slows down the emptying of your stomach, which makes you feel full longer by helping to control blood sugar by increasing insulin production when blood sugar is high.
Semaglutide can be used for weight loss in people who are overweight or obese. It is usually injected, often once a week
Semaglutide is kept in clinic and injections are managed by nurse practitioner.
After an initial consultation including a full history and physical, lab work will be ordered. Labs/blood draw are billed separately at the lab. We do our best to submit orders so that insurance will cover the cost. Once labs are reviewed by our nurse practitioner, treatment and dosing will be discussed at a follow up appointment. Patients visit about once a month, more frequently at the beginning of treatment to ensure all is well managed. Length of treatment varies by individual.
Two semaglutides are usually prescribed - Ozempic or Tirzepatide. Our practitioner will determine which is best for you.
